Hawks Soar Past Badgers
Johnson, Vt. (February 15, 2008)
Johnson State was kept at bay throughout the second half with timely 3-point shooting and an interior ace as the visiting Becker Hawks earned an 86-79 win in Carter Gymnasium on Friday night.
The frontcourt of Bobby Shedd (Johnson, Vt./Lamoille Union), 25 points, John Foley (Valley Stream, N.Y./Holy Cross), 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Charlie Viana (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream South), 18 points, combined for 63 of the Badgers 79 points on the night but it was not enough as 18 turnovers did in Johnson State (9-14, 4-7 NAC).
D.J. Exum (New London, Conn.) connected on 5-of-6 3-pointers on his way to 25 points and Trey Jacobs (Lexington Park, Md.) was a force on the inside scoring 23 points as the freshman duo canned 19-of-28 field goal attempts on the night. Travis Suber (Springfield, Mass.) netted a team-high 26 points to pace Becker (11-12, 7-4 NAC).
Johnson State will say goodbye to a pair of seniors on Saturday at 4:00 pm when they tip off with Elms College. Charlie Viana and Chris Lamica (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) will play on the Carter Gym floor for the last time as they try to upend the three-time defending champ Blazers.
