Johnson State men's basketball student-athletes Charlie Viana (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream South) and Bobby Shedd (Johnson, Vt./Lamoille Union) have been named to the North Atlantic Conference all-league teams as voted on by the NAC coaches.

 

Viana, a 6'1" senior wing, had a tremendous senior season and for his efforts was voted to the NAC First Team.  Viana averaged 20.4 ppg for the year, a career-best, and a league-leading 22.4 ppg in league play.  The Health Science major also ranked in the NAC top 10 in rebounding at 6 rpg.

 

Viana tallied career-high's as well in field goal percentage (.465), three-point field goal percentage (.409), free throw percentage (.814), and steals (32).

 

The left-handed power guard finishes his career as the school's third all-time leading scorer with 1,674 points, the all-time leader in three-point field goals with 181, seventh all-time in career assists with 211, fourth all-time in career rebounds with 544, second all-time in career field goals with 607, fifth all-time in free throw percentage at .777, eighth all-time in steals with 86, and ninth all-time in blocks with 19 to make him one of the most productive players to ever don a JSC uniform.

 

Viana and Shedd led the Badgers to a 9-17 overall record and to a NAC Quarterfinal playoff game, which they dropped 85-82 at East Division #1 seed Husson College, the program's first playoff game since 2004-05.  The nine wins was the highest total for the programs since 2002-03.

 

Shedd, a 6'5" high-flying forward, averaged 14.1 ppg and 7.2 rpg game to earn NAC Honorable Mention honors for the Badgers.  He recorded five double-double's on the season to lead JSC.

 

The Physical Education major wowed crowds with his array of creative dunks and high altitude shot blocks.  Shedd ranked 16th overall in scoring in the NAC and fifth in rebounding.  Shedd, who led the NAC in field goal percentage a year ago as a sophomore, ranked eighth this season at .509 and was third in the league in blocked shots with 41.

 

Shedd's 7.2 rpg was a career-high as was his .663 free throw percentage.  The 41 blocks, as well as his 41 assists and 29 steals, were also career best numbers.   He also became a three-point threat in 07-08 connecting on 31% of his attempts. 

 

Shedd, a junior, already ranks among the school's all-time leaders in rebounds (10th-371), field goals made (9th-309), field goal percentage (4th-.542), and blocks (2nd-68).
