2008 Recipients: Mark and Star Heinrich
The Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni Award is presented annually to honor contributions of JSC Alumni to our society, through outstanding career and public service achievements.
Mark and Starleen (Sweeney) Heinrich, Class of 1969, both majored in education. They were active on campus during their college years and Mark was president of his senior class. They live in Kingwood, Texas, where they own and operate real estate and mortgage companies. They have three sons and eight grandchildren.
After graduating, Mark taught school for one year and then served in the Marine Corps from 1970-1978 as a fighter pilot, flying the F-4 Phantom. During their years in the service, Star substitute taught while raising their three sons, and Mark went to night school, receiving his Master’s of Arts degree in business from Webster College in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1977. In 1978, he went to work for Continental Air Lines in Houston, Texas, flying the Boeing 727. He left Continental in 1983 to set up a residential real estate practice that has been very successful.
Mark and Star are a husband and wife team who were ranked in the top five percent of all agents nationally for sales. They currently co-own three Keller Williams Realty franchises and a mortgage brokerage company. Their real estate brokerage was ranked in the top 100 in the United States by Real Trends Magazine in 2007.
Both have taught religious education over the years and Mark has taught numerous real estate courses as well. They say, “We feel we have been very blessed.”
They have a number of family members living in Vermont and a summer home here as well. They have established a new scholarship endowment, saying “We appreciate all that Johnson meant to us during our college years and beyond and are pleased to be able to give something back to this institution.”
