Undergraduate Summer Deadlines

Summer semester registration dates and procedures are somewhat different from fall and spring semesters. Please read carefully.

Undergraduate Student Registration Deadlines

Degree-seeking undergraduate students may register online, or in person, by mail (see address below) or by fax (see fax # below) using the 2014 Summer Registration Form fromMarch 31 to May 12. (EDP students should talk with their advisors.) (Instructions for registering online via VSC Web Services can be found on the MyJSC Portal home page.)


Non-degree seeking students taking undergraduate courses may register in person, by mail (see address below) or by fax (see fax # below) from April 4 to May 12. Please print out and complete the Summer 2013 Registration Form(Non-degree seeking students pay a $58 registration fee.)

Completed summer registration forms may be submitted to the Registrar's Office, Johnson State College, 337 College Hill, Johnson, VT, 05656. You can also fax your completed registration form to the Registrar's Office at 1-802-635-1409.

Course Cancellation Policy

A minimum enrollment is required for a course to run. Courses with low enrollments may be canceled.

Cancellation decisions for undergraduate courses will be made immediately following the May 12 deadline (unless otherwise noted in the Course Bulletin or in VSC Web Services' Search for Sections for courses beginning prior to May 12).

Decisions for graduate courses will be made immediately following the registration deadline noted for each individual course in the "Deadlines & Details" column of the Course Bulletin or by checking the “Section Name and Title” column for each individual course in VSC Web Services' Search for Sections.

Adding a Course

After initial registration, degree-seeking students may add courses to their summer schedule online or by submitting to the Registrar’s Office a Registration Adjustment Form (available at the Registrar's Office or on the MyJSC Portal.

The instructor’s approval is required on the Summer Registration Form and the Registration Adjustment Form when registering for or adding a course on or after the course start date. The instructor has the right to deny entry into a course based on work already assigned and covered.

In general, classes can be added no later than one business day after the course start date*. 

The registration and add deadline for each course is published in the “Deadline & Details” column of the Course Bulletin and can also be found by checking the “Section Name and Title” column for each individual course inVSC Web Services' Search for Sections.

 

Dropping a Course

Current degree-seeking students may drop courses from their summer schedule online or by submitting to the Registrar’s Office a Registration Adjustment Form in person, by mail, or by fax.

 

In general, classes can be dropped no later than one business day after the course start date*.  The drop deadline for each course is published in the “Printed Comments” column of the Course Bulletin and can also be found by checking the “Section Name and Title” column for each individual course in VSC Web Services' Search for Sections.

Refunds for Dropped Courses

Tuition and miscellaneous fees will be refunded for courses dropped by the course drop deadline. Students may be assessed a $14 drop fee for any course dropped after the course has officially started, and the registration fee is non-refundable once the class has begun.

Withdrawing From a Course

Students wishing to withdraw from a course may do so after the course drop deadline and up to the 60% point of the course. Withdrawing from a course will result in a grade of “W” on the student's transcript and will not factor into his/her GPA. To withdraw from a course, students must complete a Registration Adjustment Form (available at the Registrar's Office or on the MyJSC Portal. Students are still responsible for course payment.

In general, students can withdraw from a course no later than the 60% point of the course.  The withdrawal deadline for each summer course is published in the "Deadlines & Details" column of the Course Bulletin and can also be found by checking the “Section Name and Title” column for each individual course in VSC Web Services' Search for Sections.

Class Attendance

Since summer courses are held in a more condensed and intensive format than in the fall and spring semesters, attendance is critical. The instructor has the right to deny entry into a course prior to or on the day of the first class meeting based on work already assigned and covered. Attendance is MANDATORY at all Saturday and Sunday classes in the External Degree Program. Please do not register for these courses if you know before the semester begins that you cannot attend all classes.

Change of Grade Option

The deadline to change a grade option (Pass/No Pass, Audit, Grade) is no later than one business day after the course start date. To change a grade option, students must complete a Registration Adjustment Form (which includes a place to change one’s grade option) available at the Registrar's Office.

Internships

Internships are available to degree-seeking students only. Students are charged a $45 internship fee in addition to tuition. Additional course fees may be assessed for some internship experiences. Internship applications may be obtained from 1) The MyJSC Portal 2) the department internship coordinators or 3) the Academic Dean's Office.

To register for a summer internship, submit to the Academic Dean's Office a completed internship contract that has the signature of approval of the student, site supervisor, faculty supervisor, academic advisor, and department chair. The academic dean or his/her designee gives the final approval and forwards the completed internship contract to the Registrar's Office for registration. The internship contract needs to be approved before the student begins the internship.

 

*Please note that the summer add/drop/withdrawal deadlines are different than fall and spring deadlines.
