Graduate Summer Deadlines

Summer semester registration dates and procedures are somewhat different from fall and spring semesters. Please read carefully.

Graduate Student Registration Deadlines

Degree-seeking graduate students may register online, in person, by mail or by fax using the Summer 2013 Summer Registration Form from April 1 to May 13. (Instructions for registering online via VSC Web Services can be found on the MyJSC Portal.

Beginning May 14, all course registrations must be submitted in person, by mail, or by fax using the Summer 2013 Summer Registration Form by the deadlines noted in the "Deadlines & Details" column of the Course Bulletin or by checking the “Section Name and Title” column for each individual course in VSC Web Services' Search for Sections.

Non-degree seeking students taking graduate courses may register in person, by mail or by fax using the Summer 2013 Summer Registration Form, beginning April 5 and up to the registration deadline noted for each individual course in the "Deadlines & Details" column of the Course Bulletin or by checking the “Section Name and Title” column for each individual course in VSC Web Services' Search for Sections. (Non-degree seeking students pay a $52 registration fee.)

More information for non-degree seeking students about JSC policies can be found here.

Course Cancellation Policy

A minimum enrollment is required for a course to run. Courses with low enrollments may be canceled.

Cancellation decisions for undergraduate courses will be made immediately following the May 13 deadline (unless otherwise noted in the Course Bulletin or in VSC Web Services' Search for Sections for courses beginning prior to May 13).

Decisions for graduate courses will be made immediately following the registration deadline noted for each individual course in the "Deadlines & Details" column of the Course Bulletin or by checking the “Section Name and Title” column for each individual course in VSC Web Services' Search for Sections.

Adding a Course

After initial registration, degree-seeking students may add courses to their summer schedule online, or by submitting to the Registrar’s Office a Registration Adjustment Form (available at the Registrar's Office or on the MyJSC Portal) in person, by mail, or by fax, through May 13.

Beginning May 14, students may submit their initial registration or add courses to their summer schedule only in person, by mail, or by fax by completing a Summer 2013 Summer Registration Form or a Registration Adjustment Form respectively.  Both forms are available at the Registrar's Office or on the MyJSC Portal.

The instructor’s approval is required on the Summer Registration Form and the Registration Adjustment Form when registering for or adding a course on or after the course start date. The instructor has the right to deny entry into a course based on work already assigned and covered.

In general, classes can be added no later than one business day after the course start date*. The registration and add deadline for each course is published in the "Deadlines & Details" column of the Course Bulletin and can also be found by checking the “Section Name and Title” column for each individual course in VSC Web Services' Search for Sections.

Dropping a Course

Current degree-seeking students may drop courses from their schedule online through May 13, or by submitting to the Registrar’s Office a Registration Adjustment Form (available at the Registrar's Office or on the MyJSC Portal) in person, by mail, or by fax by the course drop deadline.

Beginning May 14, all students may drop a course only in person, by mail, or by fax by completing a Registration Adjustment Form.

In general, classes can be dropped no later than one business day after the course start date.*  The drop deadline for each course is published in the "Deadlines & Details" column of the Course Bulletin and can also be found by checking the “Section Name and Title” column for each individual course in VSC Web Services' Search for Sections.

Refunds for Dropped Courses

Tuition and miscellaneous fees will be refunded for courses dropped by the course drop deadline. Students may be assessed a $14 drop fee for any course dropped after the course has officially started, and the registration fee is non-refundable once the class has begun.

Withdrawing From a Course

Students wishing to withdraw from a course may do so after the course drop deadline and up to the 60% point of the course. Withdrawing from a course will result in a grade of “W” on the student's transcript and not factor into their GPA. Students are still responsible for course payment. To withdraw from a course, students must complete a Registration Adjustment Form available at the Registrar's Office or on the MyJSC Portal.

In general, students can withdraw from a course no later than the 60% point of the course.  The withdrawal deadline for each summer course is published in the "Deadlines & Details" column of the Course Bulletin and can also be found by checking the “Section Name and Title” column for each individual course in VSC Web Services' Search for Sections.

Class Attendance

Since summer courses are held in a more condensed and intensive format than in the fall and spring semesters, attendance is critical. The instructor has the right to deny entry into a course prior to or on the day of the first class meeting based on work already assigned and covered. Attendance is MANDATORY at all Saturday and Sunday classes in the External Degree Program. Please do not register for these courses if you know before the semester begins that you cannot attend all classes.

Change of Grade Option

The deadline to change a grade option (Pass/No Pass, Audit, Grade) is no later than one business day after the course start date. To change a grade option, students must complete a Registration Adjustment Form (which includes a place to change one’s grade option) available at the Registrar's Office.

* Please note that the summer add/drop/withdrawal deadlines are different than fall and spring deadlines.

Students should refer to the "Deadlines & Details" column of the Course Bulletin or check the “Section Name and Title” column of individual courses on VSC Web Services' Search for Sections for these deadlines.
