Associate's Degree in Technical Theater
This career-oriented program includes course work in technical theater skills (stagecraft, lighting and design, music and audio engineering), studio and performing arts, and general management; an internship is required.
Theater tech students will leave the program with competencies in:
21st-century literacies
- General backstage knowledge and aptitude
- Basic stage carpentry skills
- Basic stage carpentry skills
- Basic stage lighting and scenic design
- Basic knowledge of sound systems

Dibden Director Jan Herder began his career in technical theater in 1977 as a work study student at Connecticut College, which was then home to the American Dance Festival. Jan worked as a sound engineer and electrician, going to Newport and finally Durham, North Carolina when the festival moved to Duke University in 1978.
