New this year, the purpose of this award is to recognize an outstanding part-time faculty member who teaches at JSC.
Criteria for this award include knowledge of the subject material, effectiveness in facilitating learning, ability to help students think critically and creatively, effectiveness in defining learning objectives, and effectiveness in designing educational experiences to address the needs of diverse learners. The recipient of this award receives a monetary gift in recognition of his/her outstanding teaching.
The 2008 recipient is Victoria Patrick, a veteran of nearly 25 years at JSC. Her students recommended her highly for this honor, saying things like: "She helps me see the world anew, with fresh insights. . . " and "Her challenging assignments allowed me to be expressive and personal while demanding the highest level of presentation." Victoria's own goal in teaching is "to inspire each student to take the time to discover their own ideas, thoughts and hopes."
