Freda Hebb Award 2008
Patricia Dasaro
Associate Director of Admissions , At JSC Since 1992
In her 15 years at JSC, Pat has been involved in all aspects of admissions: most recently as associate director, previously as office manager and then assistant director.
She has been integral to the admissions staff and has played a key role in bringing thousands of students to JSC.
She is a dedicated professional who speaks passionately about JSC when recruiting prospective students. She also knows the benefits of a JSC education since two of her four children are graduates, and she earned her associate’s degree in business while working full-time.
In her work with prospective students she always goes the extra step and takes the extra time to ensure that parents and students have all of the information that they need.
Pat always puts JSC and our students first, has gone above and beyond, and really cares about the students and the college.
Time and time again, Pat proves to be a wealth of knowledge for all of the Admissions staff. From her behind the scenes work with Datatel she’s been actively involved as a Team Leader since the transition to Datatel in 2002. For years she was also on the CVC Support Staff Committee, planning workshops for Admissions Support Staff throughout the state of Vermont.
Pat has been a member of the Consortium of Vermont Colleges Support Staff Committee which oversees putting together a day worth of workshops for Admissions Support Staff for all of the colleges within the Consortium.
She goes above and beyond the "call of duty" when it comes to her employees or students. Admissions staff assistant Bethany Harrington says “when my daughter was younger, I had to have a surgery. My husband and I did not have someone to keep our daughter over night, and Pat volunteered to keep Christen over night. She has housed international students when they did not have housing, she has cooked them home cooked meals, given them rides to school, done their laundry when they did not have money to do their laundry and has been a mentor to them. She is like a second mother to most of us. She has an open door policy and we all use it. It is Mama Pat that we and the students go to if we need to talk or if we want to share something with her. Pat is always concerned about us all.”
She is highly respected not only by her employees but also by all of her students. In her position as supervisor to the student workers, Pat is like mother hen: A true advocate on their behalf, and always willing to listen to students, give advice, make them a home cooked meal, and just be there for them, in general. She always makes certain that the students in the Admission Office feel appreciated with recognition parties, gifts for graduates, and small gestures to ensure that they know how important they are to JSC.
Pat represents the Johnson State at college fairs, high school nights, and special events off-campus. She interviews prospective students and meets with families to answer questions.
Pat is a “people person.” She creates a positive environment for all who work with her. She is a wonderful mentor and teacher, providing excellent nurturing and guidance not only in task assignment, but also in personal and education–related areas.
In fall 2003, VSC Chancellor Clarke recognized Pat with a VSC Chancellor’s Award for her dedication and commitment to overseeing the implementation of Colleague in the Admissions Office.
