Robert DiGuilio
Professor of Education, At JSC from 1992 - 2009
Dr. Robert DiGiulio served as a professor in the Education Department at JSC for 16 years until his untimely death in January 2009. He possessed a lifelong passion for knowledge and earned a Ph.D. in human development and education from the University of Connecticut in 1984, and, most recently, a D.Ed. in socio-education from the University of South Africa. Bob began his teaching career in the New York City public school system. His 33-year career as an educator includes teaching at the elementary, middle, junior high, and college levels, with experience ranging from crowded urban schools to a one-room schoolhouse. He also served as a school principal, educational research consultant and writer. Bob authored numerous books on varying subjects including education, peace-education, parenting, and bereavement.
Bob was a revered educator and ably conveyed his enthusiasm for education to his students by reaching beyond the bounds of his local classroom. At Johnson State, he was respectfully known by many students, faculty, and staff members as "Dr. D." In 2002, Bob won a Fulbright Scholarship to the University of Jyvaskyla in Finland. He spent a semester there, followed by a semester as a visiting professor at the Universita Di Salerno in southern Italy.
