Faculty Profile: Ken Burrill
"It's all good," is a favorite phrase of Ken Burrill's that fits his outlook on life and work. A health scientist with a doctorate in stress management and biofeedback from Boston University, Ken teaches a wide variety of courses in fitness, wellness and alternative medicine, both on the undergraduate and graduate levels.
In the latter part of his career, Ken has become especially interested in his work at a local hospital with chronic pain patients. Using biofeedback such as skin temperature fluctuations, heart rate or changes in the brain's frontal cortex, he coaches them to think differently to improve the way they feel. Often, patients come to classes to describe the methodology from their perspective.
Ken practices what he teaches and maintains good emotional and physical well-being through meditation, running, alpine skiing and sailing on Lake Champlain. He and his wife have three grown daughters.
