Faculty Profile: Elizabeth Dolci
Liz Dolci spent her 2006-2007 academic year sabbatical as full-time director of the Vermont Science Initiative (VSI), a professional development program for elementary and middle school teachers designed to improve the teaching of science.
She is the recipient of a Math/Science Partnership grant from the Vermont Department of Education that supports both the implementation and expansion of this statewide initiative. Liz joined the faculty at Johnson State College in 1992 after spending 15 years as a research scientist in cell biology at Yale University and the University of Vermont. She earned a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
When she is not teaching, she enjoys gardening, cooking with her spouse, hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing, and travel. “Being a research scientist for many years has greatly influenced my role as an educator, says Liz. “I find the essential motivating forces for me as a teacher are students who are engaged in learning, eager to deepen their knowledge, and who think critically about the world around them.” She lives in Georgia, VT.
