Introductory Letter from the Education Department
From 2004 to 2007, Johnson State College's Education Department participated in a federal initiative called the PT3 (Preparing Teachers to Use Today’s Technology) Grant. As a result of this grant, the Education Department offers a variety of technology resources for students. This area of the Web site provides the following:
- A Web pathfinder guide to assist you in finding up-to-date information on a variety of educational topics.
- A Guide to Creating Electronic Portfolios: Each student enrolled in the education program has the opportunity to create either a print or electronic licensure portfolio. This portfolio demonstrates your content knowledge and understanding of teaching pedagogy. This document provides a step-by-step outline of how to create an electronic portfolio.
- A Sample Electronic Portfolio: A sample portfolio created by using Microsoft Word is included to help illustrate how such a document might look upon completion. While this sample provides all of the necessary components, it is just that, a sample. Your portfolio should include many more examples and information relevant to your individual experiences.
The use of technology in the JSC education program continues to evolve. You too, must fine-tune your technology skills. Effective use of technology in the learning environment serves to enhance instructional experiences for all, level the playing field for some students with disabilities, and offers students the ability to express themselves in a variety of ways.
Best of luck in your future professional endeavors in education. As always, if a member of the Education faculty can be of assistance, please don’t hesitate to ask! (For contact information, click here.)
