Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education

practicing in the classroomThe B.A. in elementary education leads to licensure as an elementary teacher (K-6) in the state of Vermont. Certification is reciprocal with more than 30 states, including every state along the eastern seaboard.

Students in this program must:

  • Complete the elementary education major;
  • Complete a self-selected 30-credit liberal arts concentration;
  • Submit an approved professional portfolio that meets Vermont licensure requirements; and
  • Have an overall grade point average of B or better.

As an elementary education major, you will also undertake two separate student teaching experiences. The first is a semester-long assignment in a classroom at one of our Professional Development School (PDS) sites. The second involves a full semester in a public school classroom during the senior year. Many Vermont elementary, middle and secondary schools offer placement for these experiences.
