About the Child Development Center

Located on the Johnson State College campus in Johnson, Vermont, the Child Development Center is a safe, nurturing and educational environment, licensed for children ages 2 to 7.

We are small, tightly knit community of educators who have many years of experience working with children and with each other, ensuring a caring and stable place for your children to grow and learn.

Additionally, the center serves as a kind of classroom for students interested in pursuing a career in education. JSC students from a wide variety of departments participate in and learn from our programs though observing, researching, assisting and student teaching.

We serve children from all over the community — you do not have to be affiliated with Johnson State College to enroll your child at the center.

Fees

Full-time: $140 per week*
Part-time: $34 per day (minimum 2 days)
* For a family with two children enrolled full time at the center, a 10% discount will be given for the second child.

Hours

The Child Development Center is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. — 5:30 p.m.

Our Educational Philosophy

The staff at the center firmly believes that children learn through play. The growth of their social and emotional, intellectual and physical development is dependent on their direct interaction with adults, other children and a wide variety of classroom materials and experiences.

Our role as teachers is to encourage and guide this interactive play, so that each child is challenged. Therefore, we have arranged the classroom environments and developed an educational program so that the children at the center may move and work freely and individually within a basic organization and structure. We provide a wide variety of experiences in the arts, language and literature, science, mathematics, cooking, social studies and physical fitness. The activities in these areas are integral parts of our program.

We believe that each child is a unique individual within a group of individuals. It is important to us to encourage each child to share his or her creativity and ideas and to build his or her sense of independence and self-esteem. It is just as important to us that each child develop a sense of trust, respect and appreciation for each other as well. Every child is an essential member of his or her classroom group and of the world of people. We strive to provide an emotionally nurturing, intellectually enriching, and physically challenging environment for each child.
