HIS-2285 Modern Europe

Prerequisite: None.

This course examines European history from the French Revolution to the collapse of the Soviet

Union. The class surveys the critical events of the period, including the Industrial Revolution,

imperialism, the two world wars, and the Cold War. We focus particularly on the rapid cultural,

economic, political, and social transformations of Europe in the last two centuries, the projection

of European power around the world, and the response to European imperialism both inside and

outside of Europe. (Shared course in VSC)
