MUS-2013 Jazz/Contemporary Theory & Improvisation III

3 credits

Prerequisite: MUS-1231 and MUS-1232 or permission of instructor. *Required concurrent enrollment with MUS-2023 & MUS-2211.

This course will focus on the five general elements of music: melody, harmony, rhythm, form, and sound. It will also explore how these elements apply to the jazz/contemporary idiom. Detailed analysis of the five elements will be emphasized in this course. Through composition and improvisation, students will apply these concepts to their own creative tendencies.
