The Why and How of Giving and Raising Money
Co-Sponsored by People in Partnership, Johnson State College, and Common Good Vermont
Date: Friday, September 24, 2010
Presenter: Christine Graham
Time: 10- 1 p.m.
Location: River Arts, Morrisville, VT
Description: The greatest opportunity for fundraising is always from individuals, who can make their decisions in a personal and immediate way. This workshop will explore the motivations of donors, the why of giving, in a time when increased systems and technology tends to make many fundraising methods feel impersonal and demanding, and when a changing economy makes people think about their giving in different ways. This will be balanced with an overview of the traditional gift pyramid approach, understanding the methods that work best for each level of giving, and ways to encourage donors to give more.
About Common Good Vermont
JSC and People in Partnership partnered with CCTV Center for Media & Democracy who received $5,000 from the Green Mountain Fund to help support the Lamoille County component of Common Good Vermont — a people and web-based network that enables community and nonprofit leaders to access their collective knowledge, build partnerships, solve problems and achieve long- term social benefit for the people of Vermont. These funds will leverage the existing nonprofit and network capacity of the local coalition through meetings and workshops that address issues of sustainability, efficient business practice, marketing and organizational development. By distributing this content across the state, Lamoille County’s efforts will also help other regions of the state to promote sustainable and effective nonprofit leadership.
