Behavioral Interventionist Curriculum
About the Curriculum
Extensive research into workforce development needs in Lamoille County has made evident a clear and growing need for well-trained Behavior Interventionists.
JSC has received a $27,838 Next Generation grant from the Vermont Department of Labor to create a Behavior Interventionist curriculum and internship program in the Lamoille Valley. Johnson State College will partner with Lamoille County Mental Health (LCMH) and Laraway Youth and Family Services (LYFS) to create a Behavior Interventionist training curriculum connected with a 240-hour internship.
Who Can Participate?
During the pilot year, it is expected that 20 people will participate in a three-credit academic course that will provide BI training and a total of eight JSC students will intern at LYFS and LCMH for six academic credits (240 on-site hours/intern). This Behavior Interventionist course will be available for professional development to current BIs working in the region.

Topics for this course will include an historical perspective on human service and education in Vermont, perspectives on child development, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Emotional Behavioral Disorders, Developmental Disabilities, some background in Applied Behavioral Analysis, data keeping, the 10 Outcomes for the VT Agency of Human Services, results based accountability, developing positive behavioral supports, school culture, policies, collaborative teaming, school and community and effective communication skills.
