Student Development

Part of the college experience is making choices and learning new skills surrounding career and personal development. The first step in the process begins with regular meetings with your academic advisor. He or she can help you choose a major, establish goals and objectives for your education and help you to define your future goals and aspirations.

For those students who seek a more in-depth self-assessment of their career and personal goals, a variety of career and personal development instruments are available through the Academic Support Services Office.

In addition to one-on-one attention, we have a number of personality and interest inventories available to allow for further self-discovery.

The Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator

This a self-administered computer-based inventory, offers you an overview of your personality. Understanding your own preferences and learning about other people's can help you understand your special strengths, what kind of work you might enjoy best and how people with different preferences can communicate and relate to each other.

The Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory

This is a self-administered computer-based inventory that indicates how a person’s interests compare with those of a wide variety of different professionals. The Strong Interest Inventory does not measure abilities, but does reveal a great deal about occupations you may want to check out in further detail.

Personal Counseling

We in the Academic Support Services Office realize how difficult it is to be a serious student while managing other responsibilities such as work, family and financial obligations.

We recognize the need to offer support to you should you want someone to talk to. In addition to speaking to any member of our staff, we encourage you to make an appointment to speak to a counselor at the JSC Counseling Center by calling (802) 635-1265.

We Are Here For You

The staff of the Academic Support Services Office is here to assist you in your educational quest. Whether assisting with career and academic advising, personal support, disability accommodations or tutoring services, we are committed to helping you succeed at JSC!
